Els traginers omplien camins i senderols amb el grinyolar dels seus carros i el ressò de les ferradures del bestiar. Transportaven mercaderies i notícies, sempre exposats a l’atac de bandolers i malfactors, dormint al ras i desplaçant-se per rutes impossibles. El cançoner tradicional reserva un espai per glossar les seues heroïcitats i les seues misèries, especialment en contrades de topografia esquerpa i oratges despietats. Al Pallars, al Ripollés, a la Ribagorça, on els passos del Pirineu alimentaven llegendes i rumors, es cantaven cançons com aquesta, desfigurada pel temps però encara tocada d’un deix inquietant.

Los arrieros llenaban caminos y sendas con el chirriar de sus carros y el resonar de las herraduras de las béstias. Transportaban mercancías y noticias, siempre expuestos al ataque de bandoleros y malhechores, durmiendo al raso y desplazándose por rutas imposibles. El cancionero tradicional reserva un espacio para glosar sus heroicidades y sus miserias, especialmente en territorios de topografía arisca y vientos despiadados. En el Pallars, en el Ripollés, en la Ribagorça, donde los pasos del Pirineo alimentaban leyendas y rumores, se cantaban canciones como ésta, desfigurada por el tiempo pero todavía tocada de un halo inquietante.

Footways and paths resounded with the clanking of horseshoes and the creaking of their carts. The muleteers transported both their wares and news, always vulnerable to attacks by highwaymen and other no-goods, sleeping in the open air travelling along impossible routes. The traditional cancionero dedicates a space to regaling their heroic deeds and misadventures, especially in areas of unfriendly landscape and relentless winds. It was in Pallars, in Ripollés, and in Ribagorça, where the Pyrenees passes nurtured rumours and legends, that they sang songs such as this one, distorted with the passage of time yet still tinged with an unsettling aura.
