La processó del Corpus representa l’esplendor de la festa barroca: sensual, grandiloqüent, excessiva, doctrinària. La seua simbologia, bigarrada i complexa, on participen enramades, bestiari, personatges bíblics, danses rituals, parades militars i ordes religiosos, tots estrictament jerarquitzats, resulta ben bé indesxifrable per a una mirada actual. El Ball de Nanos n’era —i n’és— un dels seus elements integrants. Reciclats, segurament, d’alguna cerimònia pagana, els nanos s’incorporaren a la processó per simbolitzar la situació d’inferioritat i d’acatament dels territoris infidels al misteri de l’eucaristia. A la processó els nans desfilen i executen una dansa que segueix el model dels balls públics valencians tradicionals.

La procesión del Corpus representa el esplendor de la fiesta barroca: sensual, grandilocuente, excesiva, doctrinaria. Su simbología, abigarrada y compleja, donde participan enramadas, bestiario, personajes bíblicos, danzas rituales, paradas militares y órdenes religiosas, todos estrictamente jerarquizados, resulta prácticamente indescifrable para una mirada actual. El Baile de Cabezudos era —y es— uno de sus elementos integrantes. Reciclados, seguramente, de alguna ceremonia pagana, los cabezudos se incorporaron a la procesión para simbolizar la situación de inferioridad y de acatamiento de los territorios infieles al misterio de la eucaristía. En la procesión, los cabezudos desfilan y ejecutan una danza que sigue el modelo de los bailes públicos valencianos tradicionales.

The Corpus Christi procession portrays baroque celebration in all its splendour: sensual, grandiloquent, excessive, doctrinaire. Its colourful and complex symbols include leafy foliage, livestock, biblical characters, ritual dances, military parades and religious orders, all of which are organised by the strictest hierarchy, is practically indecipherable for the modern eye. The Baile de Cabezudos² was, and still is, one of its essential elements. Probably recycled from some pagan ceremony, the cabezudos were incorporated into the procession to symbolise the position of inferiority and compliance held by those who remained infidels in the face of the mystery of the Eucharist. During the procession the cabezudos parade whist enacting a dance that follows the model of the traditional public dances of Valencia.
